Valentino opens!

Back in October I was talking about Valentino “opening soon” in Warsaw. For anyone who likes spending six gazillion zloty on a handbag, this was surely great news!

Well, four months later they finally opened. I suppose defining “soon” as “a period of many months” is no less crazy than the prices and I’m certain they would say that quality such as this is worth waiting for!

I’ve no intention of visiting the shop, although my wife says she saw a nice bag in there – HELP! What I do find interesting is the difference in appearance between the closed construction site and the finished shop.

The construction hoarding was just one giant and ugly advert for Valentino. The finished shop has no advertising at all, ZERO. The only way they managed to display the name is via the shop window:

I’m having trouble getting my head around the concept of Warsaw City placing restrictions on external signage to maintain the good aspect of ul. Moliera. That just doesn’t make any sense at all. So what’s going on here? Was the hoarding a big mistake? Is the lack of signage a big mistake? Is big Valentino signage coming but is just held up in manufacture? Are you able to slap ‘temporary’ advertising crap all over your building for months on end without permission even if it is a listed building?

The difference between the hoarding and the finished shop is startling.

I wonder how long it will be before those bollards are flattened by Pani Porschomiła Cayennska? Five minutes is my guess.

Or is it the “if you’re hip you know where it is so you don’t need a sign” approach?

The answer to some of your questions might be: indecipherable city council issues. Here in Perú we have quite a few!
